May 10, 2004 Weekend Wrap-up On Friday May 7, 2004, Chuck Hossfeld was back in Stafford Springs, CT at the Stafford Motor Speedway for the fourth race of the year in the SK Modified series. The Hot Shoe started 7th in the second heat and would finish the heat in 3rd. After starting the feature in 12th position, Hossfeld in his usual fashion, began to work his way to the front. By lap 13 of this 40 lap event, he was running in the top-5, where he would stay for the remainder of the race.
Similar to many tracks and series', in SK Modified races, when the caution comes out the cars are lined-up for the restart according to their positions on the last completed lap before the caution. This would impede Hossfeld's progress through the field, as several times he had passed multiple cars in one lap, only to be moved backwards to his previous position before the caution flew. After fighting to gain positions in the waning laps of the race, Hossfeld would moved into third place. On the final lap, slight contact with the leader caused the #47 Wisk/Clorok Racing Chevrolet to get sideways. The Hot Shoe pulled off the save of the day as he kept it under control, got the nose pointing in the right direction, and went on to finish 3rd. The finish is another upbeat note for the #47 Wisk/Clorox team, who struggled in the season opening double features a few weeks ago, but with a 2nd place finish last week and 3rd this week, the #47 team is fast establishing themselves as front runners in the Stafford SK Modified division. Unofficially, this finish moves Hossfeld up six positions in the point standings to 11th, 70 points behind leader Ted Christopher (13). The #22 DeLange Racing Team was scheduled to run May 8, 2004 at Lancaster Raceway Park in Lancaster, NY. The #22 team was eager to get the race in, still reeling off their season opening victory last week in the Queen City Clash at Lancaster, however Mother Nature was uncooperative and after heavy rains the race was cancelled. This coming weekend Chuck will be behind the wheel of the #47 Wisk/Clorox SK Modified at Stafford on Friday May 14, 2004. Then Saturday May 15, he'll back in his familar v4 Mystic Missile at the Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, CT for the Xtramart 150 on the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series.
