June 14, 2004 Top Ten at Lake Erie for Hossfeld North East, PA: Chuck Hossfeld of Buffalo, NY ran to a ninth place finish in the Lake Erie 150 in front of a great crowd at the Lake Erie Speedway. The Featherlite Modified Series treated the crowd of over 3,000 to a great race with a limited number of cautions that took only 45 minutes to complete. After a busy schedule of pre-race festivities on behalf of the Lake Erie Speedway that included a radio remote and an autograph session on Friday, Hossfeld headed to the Speedway on Saturday with a mission. The goal was to have a good run for his team and to give his father something to celebrate on his birthday. He achieved both. Hossfeld qualified third for the Lake Erie 150 and started from the tenth position after the redraw. By the completion of lap 10, the Mystic Missile was eighth. After a quick caution on lap 21, Hossfeld restarted from eighth but quickly moved into seventh. For nearly 50 laps Hossfeld maintained his position in seventh as the green flags clicked off the scoreboard. On a lap 79 restart Hossfeld maintained his position. With green flag racing stretching out, Hossfeld began his move toward the front. On lap 82 the Mystic Missile was sixth, thirteen laps later he broke into the top-five. On lap 110, Rick Fuller was able to make his way by, moving Hossfeld back to sixth again. The third and final caution flew on lap 121 with Hossfeld restarting sixth. A hard-charging point leader Eddie Flemke, who recovered from a spin in the early going, took over sixth position on lap 148. Some intense racing on the final lap found Hossfeld slipping back slightly. Contact with Nevin George as the two raced for seventh got Hossfeld out of shape allowing both George and Tom Bolles to get by coming to the checkered flag. Hossfeld had to settle for ninth. "It was tough to pass tonight," said Hossfeld of the track conditions. "We also fought a loose condition all night but I'm pretty happy with a top-ten. Hopefully this is the start of turning our luck around." Next up for the Featherlite Modified Series is the Busch 150 at Wall Township Speedway in Wall Township, N.J. on June 26th.
