Top Finish Maine Goal for Hossfeld this Weekend

Buffalo, NY: Chuck Hossfeld and his fellow NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series competitors get back to racing action on Saturday night after a three week break in the schedule. The New England Dodge Dealers 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, ME is the ninth race of the 2004 season.

Last year the race at Beech Ridge was one of the most exciting of the season and Chuck Hossfeld of Buffalo, NY was right in the thick of things. Hossfeld was part of an exciting three-car battle for the win in the closing laps of the event.

"It would be great to be part of something like that this year, too," said Hossfeld. "Although maybe a few positions higher this time."

Hossfeld finished third in 2003 after a great late race battle for the lead with eventual winner Todd Szegedy and Tony Hirschman.

"As a driver you really enjoy a competitive run like that," continued Hossfeld, "especially with guys like Szegedy and Hirschman".

The competition heats up this season with Bud Pole qualifying at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday. The New England Dodge Dealers 150 gets underway at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Hossfeld hopes that the trip to Beech Ridge heats up his season as well. Thus far the 2004 season has not exactly lived up to Hossfeld's expectations, but he is confident that better things are on the horizon. Mechanical problems and bad luck have plagued a team that is a contender week-in and week-out.

"Things are starting to go our way now," said an optimistic Hossfeld. "We had a car that was capable of winning at (the last FMS race) Wall (Township Speedway) but we ran into some bad luck. We have put together a bunch of solid runs and our chemistry is back," continued Hossfeld with confidence in his voice.

Things will undoubtedly fall into place for Hossfeld and his Mystic Missile Racing Team. That could spell bad things for the other Tour teams.

Currently Hossfeld sits in seventh in the point standings less than fifty points out of the top five.

During the Tour's hiatus, Hossfeld was anything but on a break. He kept very busy running Lancaster Raceway Park in Lancaster, NY in his DeLange Racing #22. Hossfeld and company finished 4th in the Race of Champions event there on July 1, 2004. They backed that run up with a 10th place finish in weekly competition at Lancaster on July 10th.
