For the past two years, DeLange Racing of Lockport, NY has been the primary sponsor of Chuck Hossfeld's #22 asphalt modified. The relationship between Hossfeld and Dave and Laura DeLange had become quite strong over the past two years, helped in part by a shared dedication to asphalt modified racing, and a mutual respect for one another. For the 2005 season however, the DeLange's decided to take their support to a new level by taking over as car owners of the #22 modified.

The first test for the new owners was the 39th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. The event held annually at the New Smyrna Speedway in Samsula, Florida, just a few miles south of Daytona, featured nine consecutive nights of racing. The #22 DeLange Racing modified was entered into the NASCAR Tour Type modified class and would race on eight of those days, as the modifieds were off on night three. The schedule for the ½ mile high-banked oval consisted of six 25-lap races, one 50-lap race, and a 100-lap Richie Evans Memorial race.

When asked if he had ever been to the New Smyrna Speedway before, car owner Dave DeLange replied, "No, if fact I've never been to Daytona. I didn't want to come down until I had a car to race." Now, equipped with a car that was a proven winner back home at Lancaster Raceway Park in Western New York, a driver who is one of the rising stars on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, and an experienced crew; Mr. DeLange's inaugural trip to New Smyrna was sure to be a good one.

Jim Rudolph was brought in as crew chief for speedweeks. A legend in the Western New York Area, Rudolph has had a successful career as driver, as well as engine builder and crew chief, and has worked on everything from go-karts to Winston Cup cars.

Jeff DeMinck, owner and crew chief of the #1 modified campaigned by his father John DeMinck at Spencer Speedway, assisted the team as a mechanic for the series and acted as spotter.

The remainder of the crew was mainly comprised of regular DeLange Racing Team members: Henry Ketch (mechanic), Dave Harris (tire specialist), Gary Guidotti (mechanic), and Jeff Guidotti.

Crew Chief Jim Rudolph makes some final adjustments.

The trip was a successful one for DeLange Racing, netting two wins and a second place finish in the points standings. See the results page for more details. The team is currently busy making preparations for the upcoming 2005 season. On a roll with the momentum from their World Series efforts, it should be an exciting season ahead.

"Tires is what wins a race"... just ask Dave Harris the DeLange Racing Team Tire Specialist. The team went
through over 40 tires during the week and Dave got the chance to know each one intimately.
