Thompson Rains Out; Hossfeld to Race Dirt on Saturday

Thompson, CT - The New England Dodge Dealers Twin 100's event at Thompson Int'l Speedway was cancelled today due to rain.

Chuck Hossfeld had put the #50 Don Barker owned modified on the pole before the rains came half-way through qualifying.

After 21 cars took time on the track, Hossfeld's lap of 18.896 was still good enough for the pole position. In fact, Chuck was one of only two drivers to record a lap in the 18-second range, the other driver being Donny Lia (18) with a lap of 18.917.

With 20 cars waiting to qualify including those of Mike Stefanik (00) and last year's champion Tony Hirschman (48), there would certainly be some challenges for the pole, however it would have been difficult to knock Hossfeld out of the top spot.

Hossfeld earned his sixth Bud Pole Award earlier this year at Thompson Int'l Speedway in the season opening Icebreaker 2005.

Could his time have been quick enough to earn Hossfeld his 7th Bud Pole Award?

We'll never know. Since the entire field was unable to qualify, they will have to start fresh when the race is run again. At this time no announcement has been made as to when the race will be rescheduled.

In other news, Hossfeld is scheduled to run the #68 Ray McIver owned dirt sportsman this coming Saturday June 18th, 2005 at Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ont.

A few weeks back, Chuck piloted the #68 sportsman to his first ever victory on dirt at Merrittville Speedway. So grab the kids and head up to Canada this weekend for a chance to see if this asphalt star can once again find victory on dirt.
