Hot Shoe Grabs 3rd at Merrittville

Thorold, Ont - On Saturday, Chuck Hossfeld made his second appearance this year at Merrittville Speedway in Ray MacIver's #68 dirt sportsman. The asphalt veteran may be finding a new home in the dirt at this 3/8-mile D-shaped clay oval. In his previous outing this year, Hossfeld drove the Raceway Speed & Performance sportsman to his first ever dirt win. This past Saturday he backed that up with a strong third place finish.

After starting last in his heat, Hossfeld went on to finish 5th, qualifying him 15th in the starting grid for the race.

From the drop of the green flag in the 25-lap feature, the "Hot Shoe" was on a mission. In this short of a race, starting 15th generally means it's going to be hard work just to try and get a top-5 finish. For Chuck Hossfeld though, it simply means that there are 14 cars that he needs to get by quickly.

And pass quickly he did...

By lap 4, the only caution of the race, Chuck was running in 7th place. By lap 13th he had moved into 3rd and was battling for 2nd with Doug Spiece (88). As Spiece and Hossfeld duked it out, Wayne Conn (8) stretched out to a comfortable lead.

Chuck made several attempts to get by Spiece, and at one point seemed to have him cleared coming out of turn four on the high side. However, Spiece held the low line and made his car wider and wider as the laps clicked away. Hossfeld was all over Spiece in the remaining laps, but unable make a clean pass he was forced to settle for 3rd as the checkered flag waved.

Hossfeld may have additional opportunites to drive MacIver's sportsman again this year if his Whelen Modified Tour schedule allows for it. Stay tuned to this website for the latest news and announcements.
