Hillbilly
Racing has announced that Chuck Hossfeld will no longer drive #79 Coors
Light Pontiac effective immediately. The search for a replacement has
already begun and an announcement is expected soon. Hossfeld and
Hillbilly Racing joined forces at the start of the 2006 season, running
full-time on the Whelen Modified Tour and select Southern Modified Tour
events. The relationship started with high expectations, but failed the
turn into a combination that could battle for wins on a weekly basis.
Team owner Roger Hill says that despite being in the middle of a season,
now is the right time for the change. “The first few races of this year
have shown we’re not making progress, so why wait to make a change? For
whatever reason, this just didn’t work out. I have no doubt that Chuck
can win races and I know that we can win races, but together it wasn’t
working.” Roger is also thankful for the effort that Hossfeld has given
the team over the last year. “Chuck was willing to drive anytime,
anywhere, which we love to do ourselves. We enjoyed having him as our
driver and wish him success in the future.”
Crew Chief David Hill knows that the change means that the communication
process starts from scratch, so he’s ready to find a new driver and
start the team’s next chapter. “It takes a while to build the
communication necessary to be a successful team. It’s been too long
since we’ve won a race. I know it won’t be easy, but I believe we can be
back at the top soon.”
